Working Visit on Wastewater Treatment Policy and Practice
(2012-3-6)
The working visit to Australia on Wastewater Treatment Policy and Management was conducted between 28th November and 2nd December, 2011. The delegation group consisted of 8 delegates from the Chinese government and wastewater treatment plants in Lake Tai. The visit was hosted by Hunter Water Corporation and Hunter Water Australia. The working visit involved a series of sessions and site visits regarding key elements of wastewater treatment and concluded with a working group meeting to discuss potential applications in the Lake Tai Basin. The delegation group also paid a visit to the Water Industry Training Centre (WITC), from which a great collaboration opportunity was seen for capacity building in Lake Tai Basin.
IRBM Policy Workshop
(2012-3-6)
The The Integrated River Basin Management Governance conducted on January 10th, 2012. The purpose of the workshop was to draw on the results of a number of IRBM activities facilitated through the Project to consider and make recommendations for improved IRBM governance n the Lake Tai basin. The participants included National, Provincial and Municipal government officials directly involved in decision making including representatives from National Development and Reform Commission, Chinese International Engineering Consulting Cooperation, Taihu Basin Authority, Jiangsu Lake Tai Pollution Prevention and Control Office, Suzhou and Huzhou DRC and line agencies. Recommendations arising from this workshop will feed into the Lake Tai Masterplan review process being conducted by CIECC.
Extension Policy workshops
(2012-3-6)
A series of Policy Workshops in the areas of Non-point Source Pollution Modelling and Management; and Wastewater Treatment were conducted in January 2012. These workshops provided an opportunity for technical and high level policy decision makers to come together to discuss the results of previous activities and develop a set of policy directions outlining future work in these areas.
A document titled Policy Directions for Nutrient Pollution Modelling and Management – Lessons from Lake Tai has been developed to demonstrate the application of eWater CRC’s Source Integrated Modelling System (see www.eWater.com.au) and Bayesian Networks in the Lake Tai Basin. The document is directed at a broad range of stakeholders involved in the management of Lake Tai including policy decision makers, managers, technicians and researchers and is intended primarily as a ‘policy directions’ document – outlining how modelling can be used to inform the development and implementation of nutrient pollution control policy and management interventions across the Lake Tai Basin.
Policy Directions for Wastewater Treatment Optimisation in Lake Tai have also been developed drawing on results of WWT optimisation modelling at wastewater treatment plants in Suzhou and Huzhou and a series of engagements between Chinese agencies and Hunter Water Corporation (Australia). Priority policy directions for strengthening Lake Tai wastewater management are outlined for the following areas: 1) Governance and Business Imperatives; 2) Wastewater regulation; 3) Planning for growth; 4) Wastewater modelling; 5) Wastewater treatment management systems; 6)Competency in wastewater treatment; 7) Energy efficiency in wastewater treatment; 8)Research and development. These policy directions are directed at senior government decision-makers and wastewater management practitioners. They are intended to inform the Government’s policy, planning and management of nutrient pollution in the Lake Tai Basin.
