Objectives
The project is aimed to enhance the pilot cities’ capacities in formulating and implementing strategic plans to adapt to the impact of climate change on water resources, through learning about and drawing on Australia’s experiences in its strategic planning and policy formulation in the similar area.
Key Activities / Components
i) Survey and study of the pilot cities. Three pilot cities beside three rivers representing different climate regions have been selected for the survey and study. The Australian and Chinese joint team will conduct a survey on the situation of impact of climate change on water resources in the three pilot cities through delivery of questionnaire and interviews with officials and public representatives concerned.
ii) Working visit/training to Australia. The working visit to Australia will get the first-hand learning experience in strategic planning for climate change adaptation in relation to water resources; will learn methodologies, approaches, tools and best practices of policies, implementation mechanisms and performance assessment tools in formulating the national strategic plans for climate change adaptation with the focus on water resources.
iii) International workshop in China. The aim of the workshop is to disseminate the outcomes from the previous two events so as to broaden the project impact to more agencies and other cities.
Contribution to ACEDP Program Outcomes
The project will directly influence strategic planning for climate change adaptation in relation to water resources at the city level, which is of course part of the government policy formulation. It will also directly enhance the capacity of both the institution and individuals involved in terms of climate change related strategic planning.
Highlights
The planned activities have been mostly completed, and the final event of the project is an international workshop to be held in Beijing on 8 December 2012 to disseminate the project outputs and to provide an opportunity for officials and experts from the two countries to exchange ideas on the climate change adaptation issues. The project is scheduled to conclude in February 2012.
