Objectives
The project is to develop policy recommendation for the Ministry of Water Resources based on trial and adoption of Australia’s Total Channel Control (TCC) technology for irrigation management in China. It also has the potential to strengthen technical cooperation between Australian private sector and Chinese water institutions.
It has obvious synergies to another major ACEDP project, the ‘Improving Water Use Efficiency through Better Irrigation District Management and Water Right Trading’ project that is implemented by Ministry of Water Resources (MWR) and its affiliated agencies.
Key Activities / Components
1. Irrigation Equipment introduction and installation
2. Field investigation in the selected pilot area of Yellow River on current water supplies and demands and the sediment studies
3. Capacity building and training on local government officials, water professionals and farmers etc
4. Final report preparation to MWR with the recommendation of wider application of the technology in China
Contribution to ACEDP Program Outcomes
The project will contribute to the ACEDP three policy outcomes. Specifically, the project will provide the national policy makers with a scientific tool on which to base recommendation for effective irrigation management. It will enhance the awareness and the understanding of government officials, professionals and farmers on this new and innovative technology. It will contribute to the technical cooperation between Australian private sector and Chinese water institutions.
Highlights
The final dissemination seminar of the project was held on 23 December 2011 in Beijing. After the workshop, the project team will prepare the Activity Completion Report (ACR) for ACEDP review and approval by early March 2012.
