Objectives
The project aims to promote the environmental risk management to prevent and minimize the potential threats occurring from persistent organic pollutants and other toxic chemicals existing in water bodies of China.
Key Activities / Components
Detailed planning ongoing, major components are as follows:
• Technical assistance: Australian specialists provide advisory input and quality assurance for the project
• Policy and technical analysis: including review, analysis and evaluation of existing document, laws and regulations in Australia and China, and preliminary policy analysis report
• Study tour in Australia
• Capacity building: including training on theory and practice of ERA and POP, and forums involving relevant stakeholders
• Dissemination: a project outcome information workshop including all relevant stakeholders to contribute to the ERM system building
Contribution to ACEDP Program Outcomes
The project is envisaged to promote establishment of environmental risk management system through strengthened policies and guidelines, and enhanced capacity of management staff.
Highlights
The project is basically complete with all study tour and technical reports submitted and approved during Sep-Nov. Training on technical guideline and a project completion workshop was conducted at Yiyang City during 20-21 Oct. In early Dec, the Chinese counterpart MEP-FECO submitted a request to utilise residual funds for more research. The request is currently with AusAID/MOFCOM for comment.
