Objectives
It’s designed to enhance gender equality and women’s vital role in water management in Qingtongxia, Ningxia. It will build on the existing ‘Total Channel Control Project’ TCC by adding a social component focusing on gender awareness training and advocacy to the CC project and also build on the experiences of a previous UN Women gender equality and water management project in Ningxia.
Key Activities / Components
• Organize gender sensitization and inception workshop
• Produce brochures for farmers on social gender, public participation, water sanitation and O&M of Total Channel Control( TCC)
• Conduct training for county-level and provincial –level water professionals and officials and local farmers
• Organize drama team to give performances in public on gender equality and women participation with media’s invovlevement
• Produce policy recommendations on ensuring gender equality and women’s role in water management to Qingtongxia Government
Contribution to ACEDP Program Outcomes
It will have the enhanced awareness and capacity of local government officials and farmers in protecting rural water resources through series of trainings, workshops and local drama performances in Ningxia.
Highlights
The final workshop of UN Women project “Improving Gender Equality in Qingtongxia through Women’s Empowerment in Water Management” was held in the project site on 23 February, 2012.
