Objectives
The project aims to improve the capacity of environmental policy consulting institute and local government in one case study area in providing policy support on adaptation to climate change in the field of water environment.
Key Activities / Components
· Project Inception: literature and official document review will be undertaken to identify impacts of climate change on water environment and the possible needs of capacity building to adapt to the situation.
· Case study survey: including consultative meeting involving all relevant stakeholders and a field survey to identify the capacity building needs.
· Study tour in Australia: including training course, field trip and seminar to learn Australian experience on adaptation to climate change.
· Desk study: integrated policies report on Australian experience and its implications for case study region in China.
· Dissemination: including workshops to inform all the stakeholders, policy recommendations to central and local authorities, and publication of major findings through various media channels.
· Comparative study: including an in-depth comparative study to Australia on the strategy, plan and practices on climate change adaptation against long-term droughts and/or storm flooding between Victoria and Ningxia and a training program at UM.
· Training workshops: facilitate the improvement of local decision-makers’ awareness on climate change adaptation strategies and disseminate the whole project’s outcomes.
Contribution to ACEDP Program Outcomes
It is envisaged the intervention will help in the formulation of policies and measures to manage water in the light of climate change through capacity building of the policy consulting institutes.
Highlights
The planned activities have been mostly completed, and the final event of the project is an international workshop to be held in Beijing on 8 December 2012 to disseminate the project outputs and to provide an opportunity for officials and experts from the two countries to exchange ideas on the climate change adaptation issues. The project is scheduled to conclude in February 2012.
